The Process: The process of Nasyam or the Nasya Karma is a therapeutic treatment that relieves and re-energizes the body parts above the base of the neck. To be precise the Ear Throat and Nose. During the process medicated oils and powders are instilled into the nostrils as the recipient inhales them. Once instilled the chest, palms, feet and the area around the nose are massaged for the ingestion to take effect. This treatment is one of the Panchkarma therapies and is generally administered in three stages:

The process requires a specially medicated oil to be massaged by therapists in specific strokes around circulatory channels of the body. The synchronized strokes by two masseurs relax and refresh the body. The massage stimulates blood circulation and promotes quick removal of metabolic wastes and harmful toxins thereby providing relief from anxiety, fatigue, backaches etc.

  • The Poorvakarma or pre procedure preparation which involves facial oil massages and steaming of the face.
  • The Pradahankarma or the Primary procedure which involves lukewarm medicated oil administered through the each nostril alternatively, followed by the gentle massaging of soles, shoulders, neck, ears and palms.
  • The Paschatkarma or the Post procedure which involves gargling to cleanse the mouth and inhalation of medicated steam and smoke.

Duration: The Nasyam therapy is given for a period of 14 days or two weeks.
